Background

The imposing building of St John the Baptist RC Church was founded in 1830 built in 1927 in the Byzantine Revival style with a 20m wide central dome and is Grade II* Listed and is situated in the centre of Rochdale opposite the Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum

Extensive conservation works externally including

•Repair/replacement to masonry•Careful removal of plant growths to facework•Repair replacement of rainwater goods•Rebuilding brickwork after carefully removing decayed bricks•Rake out brickwork from parapets & lime mortar repointing•Relay artificial stone copings with lime mortar beading•Patch repair to existing Dome drum bitumen felt upstand•Waterproofing•Restoration of window mullions•Replacing glass roof lantern•Replacing broken quarries to leaded lights•

Internal restoration works including;

•Removal of de-bonded perished plaster to walls•Doff cleaning•Replastering walls and ceilings•Prepare surfaces and redecoration works•Replace water damaged & defective electrical switches, sockets & light fittings
